Letters From Circe's Island #7: Sound

The island of Aiaia is a odd yet wondrous place, It contains many creatures, Circe and a lot of different environments, all that is needed to be given sound. Sound is a key component  to atmosphere but sometimes can be overlooked in game design. Sound is important in order to help flesh out the themes and can be used in key moments to help make a piece of a game stick in your head for a long time.  With the sound design in Aiaia, we tried to stick to creating sounds to match as close to reality as possible. Trying to use recording gathered by the team in order to make a unique feel. 

Sound Recording

A lot of sound effects to be used in game was recorded in house. Using resources from the Kent State Performing Arts library we were able to get a microphone that we used to record sounds effects like walking in grass and gathering plants, These will be taken and put into audacity to be edited and fixed then pushed into the game. More sounds will be recorded as we progress farther this month with development!

Audio Mixing 

A important part of sounds is proper mixing of the audio, a lot of the effects and their mixing can make or break a games audio sphere and can drown out sounds in a mess of effects.  Studying a lot of how sounds needed to be mixed is an important step in my work, I want the game to sound as dynamic as possible while having classic sounds to remember!

As time progresses

The team here at No Fridge has been ramping up production in the coming weeks in preparation for our final sprints. We have been working hard on each of our tasks and are reaching ever closer to our end goal of showcase. I am very happy with our progress and proud of all the work done so far. The skill and potential everyone here has is awe inspiring and I cannot wait to see how this turns out!
